A Song

Sing with me …

Night and day she sews and sews.
Just how many quilts she’s made
God only knows.
Whether morning, night, or noon
The machine is on, sound fills the room,
I hear the hum night and day.

Night and day, give me a break.
Says I must keep pace with her
Whatever it takes.
Basement’s full, but she don’t care,
Pile is halfway up the stupid stairs.
She’s sewing more, night and day.

Night and day, she is retired.
Not content with one quilt a day,
The number creeps higher.
The clock flashes two-o-four,
She’s still sewing, sewing, sewing more.
Day and night, night and day.
